Canaan Fir (Abies balsamea var. phanerolepis, also known as Canaan Valley fir and Blue Ridge fir) is the perfect Christmas Tree. The name 'Canaan Fir' derives from its native habitat in West Virginia's Canaan Valley. At an altitude of 3,200 feet the trees originate in the highest valley east of the Rocky Mountains.

In the mid 1700's, pioneer explorer, George Casey Harness was out tracking a black bear one morning, when he came to a breath-taking vista of a wild grass and forested valley. So impressed young Harness that he involuntarily cried out, 'Behold! The Land of Canaan!' Thus Canaan Valley was named after the biblical promised land of milk and honey.

Canaan fir has a similar appearance to Fraser fir and the smell of a Balsam fir. The soft needles stay a dark green color and remain fixed to the tree long after cutting. As a Christmas tree, Canaan fir adds a pleasant aroma to the house and the needles aren't sharp like the needles of Scots pine and spruce. The only problem we have is the deer like it too.

Our Fresh Christmas Tree Canaan Fir is a 8 - 9 foot has a conical form, with horizontal to upward sweeping branches that have drooping branchlets. The needles are shiny emerald in color, 3/4 to 1 1/2 inches long and slightly curved. Canaan Fir is still used as a cold remedy for some of our wiser customers.

Ten to eleven years in the field are required to produce a perfect 8 - 9 foot tree. All of our trees are hand selected with special care and attention to shape, density, color and are cut at the last possible moment to ensure freshness. All Christmas trees are harvested as late as possible to ensure freshness and boxed for easy delivery to your doorstep. Care instructions are included to make your Christmas tree last well into January.
