Adopt A Christmas Tree

Adopt A Christmas Tree

Adopting a Christmas tree is a great gift idea that everyone can enjoy (including our planet). This year, consider giving a unique holiday, baby, birthday, or corporate gift that that you can watch grow while benefiting the world we live in.

Remove Your Carbon Footprint

Did you know that Christmas Trees filter water, remove air pollution, sequester carbon, and provide homes for wildlife? By adopting a Christmas Tree you are helping reduce your CO2 footprint from our planet. Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) are climate credits (or carbon credits). One CER is considered equivalent to one metric ton of CO2 emissions. It takes approximately six trees to create one carbon credit over a 100 year period.

Planting Your Adopted Christmas Tree

Here is the labor breakdown of planting a Christmas Tree. After the last frost (usually the middle of March) we gather the seedlings to be planted. We then trim the roots and and dip them in an organic planting clay. This gives the seedling an extra boost of moisture when the climate is dry. We then go out to our fields and dig a hole that spaced for optimal growth in one of our established rows. It then takes approximately a minute to plant the tree. We then tag your tree with a number and section location and photograph its current health condition. This information is stored in a database and emailed to you.

Monitoring Your Tree

During the year, our staff monitors how your tree is doing. We follow strict USDA guidelines in our insect management. We are constantly on the look out for Nantucket pine tip moth, Pine webworm, Redheaded pine sawfly, Pitch-eating weevils, Spider mites, Pine aphids and soft (tortoise) scales, Pine scale and Pine needle scale. Insect colonies are hand removed when spotted. We believe in minimizing insecticidal use whenever possible. Please note if any act of nature causes your adopted tree's death we will notify you immediately and replant a baby tree the following Spring or Fall or give you the choice of adopting an already growing Christmas Tree on our farm.

Photographing Your Christmas Tree

Once a year a photo of your adopted tree is taken for your viewing pleasure. Additional photos are available at an extra cost. Photo prints of your christmas tree are also available at extra cost. Photographing the life stages of your adopted Christmas tree is something we enjoy. Watching a one stem seedling become a mature adult Christmas tree takes many years. Growing Christmas trees is a wonderful educational process that everyone can benefit from.

Shaping Your Adopted Christmas Tree

Around the middle of June we begin our shearing season. The Summer gets hot, so our staff begins right after the morning dew and hand prunes several hundred trees until the temperature gets to unbearable or it starts to rain. This gives our staff the opportunity to remove encroaching weeds and inspect the trees further for insects and disease. Shearing season usually lasts until the middle of July. When it is done, our Christmas Tree farm takes pride in viewing its thousands of manicured trees. At that time we will send you an invitation to visit our farm and learn the process of growing trees.

Shipping Your Adopted Christmas Tree
